To seek approval for a variation relating the cost of fit-out for the remaining part of the Preston Community Library development contract with Kier Construction Limited.
Decision:
To approve a variation of the contract with Kier Construction Limited for the Preston Community Library Development by £366,883.82 to complete the fit-out works.
Reasons for the decision:
The Council require completion of the fitting out works at Preston Community Library by Kier Construction Limited (“Kier”). In January 2024, Kier completed construction of 12 new affordable units and a new purpose built modern library facility at Preston Community Library Site under a contract with the Council. The contract included for the provision of shell and core for the library space, and officers are seeking approval to vary the contract for Kier to undertake the library fit out works and to move the community library from their temporary location in Ashley Gardens back into their new permanent home.
Alternative options considered:
The proposal is to add the library fit out works to the existing contract with Kier. An alternative would be to undertake a tender exercise, but this was discounted due to the time required and no guarantee of obtaining a more cost effective proposal from an alternative contractor.
