Authority to agree the changes to the polling place for Northwick Park (Officer Non Key Recordable Decision)

  • Find out more about this issue

Decision Maker: Chief Executive

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

To seek approval to a change in a polling place location within Northwick Park ward.

Decision:

To approve the following change to the polling places in the ward of Northwick Park:

To relocate voters from the designated polling station, Northwick Park Sports Pavillion in the Northwick Park ward (Polling District WNP1) to the polling station within St Cuthberts Church. St Cuthberts Church, which already serves as a polling location for polling district WNP4.

Reasons for the decision:

If a designated polling place becomes unavailable for an election, or if a better alternative is identified, the Chief Executive has the delegated authority to select an alternative polling place. This decision will be made after informing Party Whips and the councillors for the affected ward.

As part of the preparations for the Local Elections scheduled for 7 May 2026, it has been identified that one of the designated polling stations, Northwick Park Sports Pavillion is no longer as accessible to voters in the Northwick Park ward, polling district WNP1.

Due to construction work taking place in the area, the access point to the sports pavilion has been closed off by developers, therefore electors are unable to access the polling location as easily or conveniently.

For this reason, a decision has been made to relocate electors to a nearby polling station within St Cuthberts Church. St Cuthberts Church already serves as a polling location for polling district WNP4.

Alternative options considered:

Other potential options were explored in the Northwick Park ward. These, however, were not as accessible or too far in distance.

Interests and Nature of Interests Declared:

None

Wards Affected: Northwick Park;

Cabinet/Committee Decision or Scheme of Delegation: Delegation from General Purposes Committee (22 January 2024) - To delegate to the Chief Executive designation of alternative polling places in the event of any polling place not being available at any election or better provision being identified, following consultation with the Party Whips and respective ward councillors.

Parties Consulted: Ward councillors of Northwick Park have been notified of the change as well as Party Whips.
