Second Application to Phase 4 Public Sector Low Carbon Skills Fund for External Grant Funding (Non-Key Officer Recordable Decision)
Decision Maker: Corporate Director of Residents and Housing Services
Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
Purpose:
To request approval to submit a second application to Phase 4 Public Sector Low Carbon Skills Fund to the value of £400,000 to commission detailed designs of the decarbonisation of Brent Civic Centre through the installation of Air Source Heat Pumps.
Decision:
That the Corporate Director Resident Services, in consultation with the Cabinet Member for Environment, Infrastructure and Climate Action:
i) Approves the submission of an application for £400,000 to the Phase 4 Public Sector Low Carbon Skills Fund for detailed design of the decarbonisation of Brent Civic Centre through installation of Air Source Heat Pumps.
Reasons for the decision:
Brent is seeking grant funding in order to commission detailed design of the decarbonisation of Brent Civic Centre through the installation of Air Source Heat Pumps to replace the gas boilers. The measure was identified as part of the heat decarbonisation plan for Brent Civic Centre. Most other works proposed have already been completed but the cost and complexity of this element is a significant barrier to decarbonising Brent’s flagship building.
Alternative options considered:
The removal of gas boilers from the Civic Centre forms a key part of the decarbonisation of Brent’s flagship building. This forms part of the Council’s Climate Action Workstream – ‘Leading by Example’. All climate action workstreams form part of the Council’s reporting on the Climate Emergency Delivery Strategy.
