To request approval to vary the contract for roof repair works with Breyer Group Plc at The Stonebridge School.

That the Director Property & Assets:
i) Approves the variation of contract with Breyer Group Plc for the roof repair works at The Stonebridge School.
Reasons for the decision:
Following on from the contract award and subsequent works, it has been identified that the roof tiles require replacing in their entirety as the current tiles are not fit for purpose and have not been fixed to the roof appropriately. This is outside of the agreed scope of works, and failure to replace the tiles could lead to them falling and causing damage and injury. The contract variation would be funded through the School Condition Allocation (SCA) provided to the Council.
Alternative options considered:
An alternative option would be to complete the works as per the contract and return at a later date to replace the tiles. However, there are cost benefits of completing the work under this contract to the school and will complete under one project and not inconvenience the school at a later date.
Another option would be to do nothing which has been discounted owing to the health and safety risks of poor quality tiles becoming loose and causing damage to the building and / or injury to building users.
