PETITION TO HAVE A CROSSING ON ST ANDREWS ROAD AT THE HIGH ROAD JUNCTION
Reasons for Our Request:
1. Safety of Children and Pedestrians: The area around St Andrews Road is frequently used by young children, their caregivers, and visitors to the local church. The current conditions are hazardous as there is no safe crossing point. Children and adults are often forced to navigate between vehicles, which poses a significant risk to their safety.
2. High Traffic Volume: St Andrews Road is regularly used as a rat run, leading to high volumes of fast-moving traffic. This makes it dangerous for pedestrians, especially at peak times when children are being dropped off or picked up from the nursery and when events are held.
3. Dangerous Driving Behaviour: Vehicles often turn at speed into St Andrews Road, increasing the likelihood of accidents. The bollards intended to protect pedestrians are frequently knocked down, indicating a persistent problem with traffic control and driver behaviour.
4. Community Impact: The lack of a safe crossing affects not only nursery children and their parents but also local residents and churchgoers. The church building is a hub for community activities, and safe pedestrian access is crucial for everyone who uses these facilities.
5. Need for Proactive Safety Measures: A designated pedestrian
crossing at this junction will provide a safe and visible place for
pedestrians to cross, reducing the risk of accidents and enhancing
the overall safety of the area. It is a necessary measure to
protect our community’s most vulnerable members and improve
the quality of life for all residents.
Yours sincerely,
