Reinstate Vale Farm Athletics Track: Invest in Health, Sport and Our Community
Vale Farm contains a former cinder athletics track within one of Brent’s main sports hubs, alongside the leisure centre, 3G football pitch and other recreational facilities. However, the track has been out of formal use for 20+ years and is not currently available as a modern athletics facility.
The track has not operated as a formal athletics facility for over 20+ years and is not currently bookable or formally designated as part of the centre’s facility offer. Although the area continues to be used informally by some residents for jogging and walking, its present condition is not suitable for formal athletics use.
Brent has a growing population and limited formal outdoor
athletics provision, which is concentrated at Willesden Sports
Centre. The nearest alternatives are a considerable distance away,
creating potential barriers for children, young people, schools,
local sports clubs and residents who want to utilise a formal
athletics track.
Reinstating the track would encourage healthier lifestyles, improve
physical and mental wellbeing, provide a safe space for people of
all ages to be active, and strengthen opportunities for grassroots
sport. It would also support local schools, athletics clubs and
community groups while making full use of an existing sports
complex that already serves thousands of residents each year.
Investing in Vale Farm running track is an investment in the
health, wellbeing and future of Brent residents. A modern,
well-maintained track would encourage more people to be active,
support local schools and sports clubs, inspire the next generation
of athletes, and provide a safe, accessible space for residents of
all ages to be active.
We urge Brent Council to consider the reinstatement of the
former Vale Farm athletics track as part of its future plans for
the Vale Farm site and the wider review of sports and leisure
provision across the borough.
