Make the Sycamore Grove–Church Lane (NW9 8RB) Passageway Safe for Residents
Background:
Residents have repeatedly complained about this passageway, which runs from Sycamore Grove to Church Lane (NW9 8RB). The area is now unsafe due to people gathering there to smoke drugs, drink alcohol, and engage in anti-social behaviour.
The lighting, though present, is blocked by overgrown trees, leaving the alley in darkness. The long-standing black construction hoarding along part of the route makes the space feel enclosed and intimidating, especially at night. This has been there for over 3 years. With daylight hours shortening for winter, this situation is even more serious.
• Schoolchildren using the passage to reach Church Lane for buses and shops now walk home in the dark or advised not to use this passageway.
• Elderly residents have said they avoid the passage
altogether, taking a much longer route to stay safe.
The whole purpose of this walkway is to provide a quick and
convenient route — yet many residents no longer feel able to
use it.
We therefore call on Brent Council to prioritise safety
improvements to this alleyway immediately, making it safe and
accessible for everyone in the community.
