Make the Hazelmere Road Pedestrianised Area Safer
The Hazelmere Road Pedestrianised Area, which intersects with Priory Park Road and Kenilworth Road is a magnet for Anti-Social Behaviour and Fly-Tipping. The area was refurbished in 2005, but 20 years on, it is no longer fit for purpose and provides an ideal environment for crime. This is largely due to the area being almost completely unlit in the evening. The area relies on 24 recessed uplighters which are set into the cracked pavement. All 24 lights are non-operational. The area has only 1 remaining working streetlamp, the light of which is almost completely obscured by mature trees. This provides an almost completely pitch black area in the evening, and an ideal environment for Anti-Social behaviour (specifically drug-use) and Fly-Tipping. The area also has 2 black 'grit-style' bins which may have at one point been used for cleansing services. The area also features large wooden planter boxes, which are rotting, with exposed broken frames and unmaintained greenery. In 2025, both the planters and black bins are used as "drop zones" for Anti-Social Behaviour and Fly-Tipping. We petition the council to rectify the above items, in order to improve the overall safety of the area for the many families and elderly ones who live and pass through this zone daily.
