Review of Polling Places 2018 PDF 99 KB The report summarises the results of an non-statutory review of polling places across the Borough and puts forward suggestions for replacement polling stations as required.
Additional documents: Minutes: Thomas Cattermole (the Council’s Head of Executive and Member Services) introduced the report which outlined the polling station arrangements that had been put in place for the Local Elections on 3 May 2018. Mr Cattermole explained that all local authorities had to review their polling districts and polling places at least once every five years, but it was normal practice to carry out a non-statutory review of polling places across the Borough prior to any election. The last time this had taken place was in May 2017 prior to the General Election in June 2017 and polling stations would remain the same as they were then, with the exception of the stations listed in section 2.1 of the report (page 6 to the Agenda pack).
In response to Members’ questions related to polling station CTO1 (Tokyngton ward), Mr Cattermole explained that all options had been examined and there had been a very little difference in the average walking distance to the place where the hut outside Amex House used to be and the proposed new location at the Yellow Pavilion on Engineers Way.
Members asked if it could be possible voters registered at Northwick Park Hospital and the University of Westminster Campus (currently voting at polling station NNP3) to be redirected to vote at polling station NNP1 as it would be easier for them to access it. Mr Cattermole said that the Elections Team would look at the suggestion and assess its feasibility. Results would be reported back to Members via email.
The next statutory review of polling districts and polling places would take place in October 2018.
